NORMAN — A tasty evening is being planned to benefit the Norman School District's music programs.

The annual Taste of Norman, a fundraiser for the music departments at Norman's two high schools, will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 before the Norman High-Norman North High football game.

The event is at McCasland Field House, just north of the Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on the University of Oklahoma campus. Overflow seating will be provided in a tent outside the field house, according to organizers.

A record number of restaurants have signed up to be part of the event, said Sherry Isom, volunteer chairman of Taste of Norman. People can sample food from 46 local restaurants. There also will be live entertainment provided by music students.

"It's a really fun evening in a great atmosphere,” said Isom.

The event is the music department's biggest fundraiser of the year. Students sold more than 2000 tickets for last year's event and raised more than $33,000. The money is used to buy equipment and music and pay for other expenses for the bands, choirs and orchestras at the high schools.

Among the restaurants participating this year are Charleston's, The Mont, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Legend's, La Luna, Maggie Moo's and Sooner Legends BBQ and Catering.

This is the seventh year the event has been at the opening football game between the district's two high schools.
