After watching film of the Heritage Hall defense all week, Jones' Taylor Bilyeu knew he could have a big game as a receiving threat. The film study of the Chargers' defense certainly paid off as the senior running back hauled in eight receptions for 132 yards to lead Jones to a 20-7 victory in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

“After watching film, we were expecting them to drop back and not let us throw deep, so I planned on slipping out of the backfield and making some plays as a receiver,” said Bilyeu. “This was definitely my best game catching the ball.”

Bilyeu's performance was highlighted by a dazzling 59-yard reception from junior quarterback David Cornwell in which Bilyeu broke four tackles before finally being driven out of bounds at the Heritage Hall 4. One play later, senior wide receiver Randal Case scored on a jet sweep run to put the Longhorns ahead 17-0.

Cornwell said of the play, “I honestly didn't even see it, because I got hit as soon as I let the pass go. All I could hear was the announcer, but it sounded like Taylor made an outstanding play.”

The Longhorns offense was impressive, totaling 426 yards. However, coach Dave Martin believes his defense was just as dominant.

“No one seems to realize we've been playing great defense here all season,” Martin said. “Everyone wants to talk about our offense, but our defense is pretty potent too.”

The Jones defense held Heritage Hall (8-4) to just 53 rushing yards.

The Chargers were led offensively by junior wide receiver Dominique James, who had five receptions for 79 yards.

Jones (10-2) will travel to Sequoyah-Claremore (7-5) next Friday.
