TCU has just enough to beat Prairie View A&M 44-39

TCU — without its best player, junior Amric Fields, for the rest of the season due to a knee injury — managed to defeat the Panthers 44-39 on Sunday in a South Padre Invitational game despite shooting 30 percent against the Panthers' matchup zone.

Ray Jarvis had 13 points for the Horned Frogs (3-1), who used a 10-3 run down the stretch.

Prairie View (2-3) shot 28 percent for the game, including 9 for 40 after making four of its first five shots.

The Panthers played without Louis Munks, who is out for the rest of the season with a broken leg, and Josh Eleby, the team's second-leading scorer, who is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury

TCU posted its lowest winning point total since 1983.

"A lot of people will say the game was ugly," said Trent Johnson, TCU's first-year coach. "But, to me, that's how we're going to have to play to be successful moving forward.

"When you lose a guy with the impact of Amric, it hurts you in points and rebounds, but also hurts you in your rotation because he played two or three positions."

Kyan Anderson's 3-pointer at the six-minute mark broke a 32-32 tie, and he had another bucket to key TCU's game-ending run.
