OKC teacher attends event

An Oklahoma City teacher attended the Hatton W. Sumners Foundations of Democracy Institute in Norman June 11-14. The institute was sponsored by the Oklahoma Bar Association.

Webster Middle School teacher John Riley attended the four-day institute on an all-expenses paid scholarship.

“This year, we added a teacher's training day, during which, we covered retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's iCivics program,” said bar association law-related education coordinator Jane McConnell. “The iCivics program is an interactive, Internet-based learning program designed to educate and engage students regarding their civic responsibilities.”

Teachers who participated in the institute received four days of curriculum training and professional development credits. They received a set of classroom texts.

For more information, call McConnell at 416-7024 or email janem@okbar.org.
