DUNCAN (AP) — Prosecutors have filed a motion to dismiss a first-degree murder charge against a 16-year-old Oklahoma boy charged in the shooting death of a baseball player from Australia.
The Stephens County District Attorney’s Office filed the motion Tuesday and filed a new charge against James Francis Edwards, Jr.
Edwards is now charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Chris Lane. Prosecutors have petitioned to have him certified as an adult. He is testifying against two other teens charged in the case.
Lane was shot while jogging along a tree-lined road in Duncan while visiting his girlfriend’s parents in August. Investigators say he was randomly targeted by “bored” teenagers.
He had been preparing to enter his senior baseball season at East Central University in Ada.
