A 15-year-old girl went into a pond to save a dog that had fallen through the ice. Both came out of the frigid water just fine.

Firefighters were called about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday to 13900 SE 134, a rural home in southeast Oklahoma County, where a large dog fell into a partially frozen pond. The girl said she went in the pond after the dog, but the girl’s mother called to the dog, and it was able to get out on its own.

The girl did not suffer hypothermia and already had changed clothes by the time firefighters arrived, fire Maj. Mark Cochell said.

People should not try to walk on frozen ponds, creeks or lakes, Cochell said.

"It’s very, very dangerous because it does not get cold enough long enough for people to walk out on ice,” Cochell said.
