Teen killed in Lincoln Co. house fire

STROUD — A 14-year-old boy was killed in a rural Lincoln County house fire early Tuesday morning.

Chris Schweigert died while being taken to the hospital after the fire broke out about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Chris was sleeping at home when the fire broke out, investigators said. His mother, Debbie Schweigert, was also in the home at the time of the fire. Smoke detectors alerted Debbie Schweigert to the fire, said Joanne Sellars, chief of operations at the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Debbie Schweigert escaped the fire and was injured when she got her son out of the burning mobile home through a window, Sellars said. She remains hospitalized.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and there is no indication the fire was suspicious, Sellars said.
