Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 10 DVD review
The final season of the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” animated series comes to DVD this month from Lionsgate.
The animated series, based on the comic book created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, became one of the most popular properties of the late 1980s, but by 1996, the series was nearing its end. For fans that dropped off before the mid-1990s, they may be surprised by the theme song. The introductory song and animation changed as of Season 8 from the original song to a new, more techno version, and the animated intro now included clips from the live-action films.
The eight episodes that make up Season 10 are included on the single-disc release in which the mutated turtle heroes Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo battle an alien warlord determined to take over the earth. They are mentored by Splinter, formerly a human martial arts instructor who is mutated into a giant rat.
The warlord Lord Dregg became the main villain in Season 9, and he returns here continuing his plot to enslave humanity.
Shredder, the main foe of the Turtles in the first eight seasons, was banished to Dimension X in Season 8 along with Krang, a disembodied brain in an android body. Shredder and Krang return in Season 10 for a three-episode arc as Lord Dregg brings them back to earth from Dimension X to battle the turtles. The Turtles need assistance to face this additional threat, so they travel back in time to bring their past selves into the present in order to defeat Dregg, Shredder and Krang.
