Officing at home was uncharted territory for us. As reporters, we were used to newsrooms — one big, loud, open space where someone always was talking at some time or sometimes everyone was talking at once. There’s a certain amount of annoyance with that but also a camaraderie and a certain kind of energy. If news excited one person, it generally excited all of us, sometimes sending us into a frenzy of news gathering.

To be honest, officing out of home scared us. Would we maintain our schedules, get our work done on time or would we oversleep, forget to dress, get sidetracked by soap operas and eat everything in our refrigerators before noon everyday?

Truth is, our days turned out to be much the same as before. We still gather news, go on assignments, write stories, post stories online, interview people and chat with each other via e-mail.

Some things are different. Not bad, just different. I can now water my lawn while writing a news story. Or the washing machine is thumpety-thumping in the background while I interview someone on the phone.

My dog can’t quite figure out why I don’t leave the house as often as I used to.
