Temperatures are continuing to climb in Oklahoma, the National Weather Service reports.

Wednesday could be the hottest day of the year in central Oklahoma. The high temperature is expected to reach 101 degrees. There is a chance for thunderstorms in central Oklahoma Wednesday night.

The Oklahoma City forecast is as follows:

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 101. South, southwest wind 6 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 77. East wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 101. East wind 8 to 13 mph.

Thursday night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy with a low around 76. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light south after midnight.

Friday: Sunny and hot with a high near 97. South, southeast wind 5 to 13 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear with a low around 75.

Saturday: Sunny with a high near 95.

Saturday night: Mostly clear with a low around 70.
