EDMOND — A Sam's Club under construction in Edmond is scheduled to open Oct. 3. The new business along Interstate 35 is expected to employ 200 people.
The 138,445-square-foot building and fuel station are being constructed on 15.98 acres north of a Walmart SuperCenter, on land once known as Fox Lake Plaza.
The Edmond store is one of two new Sam's Clubs to open in Oklahoma this year. A store in Owasso is set to open Oct. 24.
Edmond's store, at 1117 W I-35 Frontage Road, will be the tenth Sam's Club in Oklahoma.
The final plat for the Edmond store was approved this week by planning commissioners. City council members will make a final decision on the plat at their Aug. 26 meeting.
Sam's Club officials would not disclose the cost of the new building. The construction cost is listed as $7.5 million on the commercial building permit filed with the city.
“The new Edmond Sam's Club is being constructed with a variety of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient fixtures,” said Mark Scott, manager of public relations for Sam's. “For instance, daylight-harvesting skylights reduce the amount of energy required to light the store by up to 75 percent daily.”
