Terry to remain Chelsea captain after race abuse

LONDON (AP) — Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck says defender John Terry will remain the club's captain despite a four-match ban for racially abusing an opponent during a Premier League game.

Terry apologized Thursday for using inappropriate language during an on-field confrontation. In addition to his suspension, the 31-year-old center back was fined $352,000 by the Football Association for abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand in a heated west London derby last October.

But Buck tells talkSPORT radio Saturday that "John will continue to be captain of the club. We have taken disciplinary action and we think it is firm disciplinary action and appropriate for the circumstances."

Buck adds that the club fined Terry an undisclosed amount that was "by far" the largest it has ever imposed on a player.
