Tevin Foster leads Lawton to 35-7 win over Norman North

As much as anyone, Tevin Foster's mother could be thanked for Lawton's 35-7 over Norman North on Saturday at Cameron Stadium.

A year ago, Foster wasn't playing football, having given up the sport to focus on basketball.

But after the Wolverines basketball team started to struggle a bit, mom decided it was time for her son to get a backup plan.

“She tole me one of the biggest mistakes my dad made was not leaving his options open,” Foster said. “She's the reason I'm playing football.”

Foster had six catches for 140 yards and a touchdown, as Lawton (9-2) advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

The Wolverines will travel to Broken Arrow at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Norman North, which was 1-9 a season ago, ends its season 6-5.

All of Foster's receptions were between 17 and 29 yards. His biggest came late in the second quarter when he hauled in a 29-yard touchdown catch that put the Wolverines up 21-7.

“He did a phenomenal job,” Lawton defensive end Patrick Diaz said. “I knew he was a good player, but after tonight, I have no doubt football is his sport.

“He's a football player now.”

Like much of Lawton's offense this season, though, Foster's touchdown was set up by its excellent defensive front, especially ends Diaz and D.J. Ward.
