NORMAN — Going into the second quarter, Texas A&M was firmly in the game, down only 14-10 with Oklahoma about to punt.
But that's when the Aggie return teams began a meltdown.
A&M's Terrence Frederick acted like he was going to field a Tress Way punt. But at the last moment, pulled back his arms. Thinking Frederick had touched it, several Aggies dove for the ball, which was eventually recovered by OU's Keenan Clayton.
Two minutes later, quarterback Landry Jones found Ryan Broyles for a touchdown to put OU up, 21-10.
Later on in the quarter, Cyrus Gray fumbled a kickoff return that was stripped by Jonathan Nelson and recovered by Sooner freshman linebacker Ronnell Lewis.
Five plays later, Jones connected with Adron Tennell for an 11-yard touchdown, extending OU's lead to 42-10.
Gray fumbled two other kickoff returns in the quarter, though those were recovered by the Aggies.
