A Texas man accused of traveling to Oklahoma City for a sexual encounter with an 8-year-old girl has been jailed on a complaint of child sexual exploitation, police said Monday.

The child was the invention of Oklahoma City investigators, Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

“The 8-year-old girl was a fictitious character,” Knight said.

“That's who he believed he was meeting. In reality, he was meeting with investigators from Oklahoma City police.”

The man arranged the meeting using electronic devices and social networks, police said.

Police arrested Scott Froedge, 34, of Arlington, Texas, on Friday in the 1500 block of Northwest Expressway, according to a police incident report.

Froedge was booked into the Oklahoma County jail and bail was set at $24,000.

Police said Froedge is a registered sex offender convicted in Texas in 2002 for possession of child pornography.
