Well, the Sooners are smiling and it’s not even Red River Rivalry week yet.
As reported by the Austin American-Statesman, Texas starting quarterback David Ash will not play next week against OU (concussion-like symptoms), leaving Case McCoy as the starter. McCoy started Thursday against Iowa State and helped the Longhorns to a 31-30 win.
McCoy, the younger brother of former UT quarterback Colt McCoy, hasn’t fared as well against the Sooners as older brother. His numbers aren’t awful in those games (14 of 24, 228 yards, two touchdowns in two games played; didn’t play in 2010), but the results have been horrific for Texas, as OU has won in blowouts in each of Case’s appearances. McCoy has more turnovers (2) than wins in the OU-Texas series and his two touchdowns came well after the game was in hand last year in a 63-21 Sooners victory.
The senior could end his career 0-4 against OU, and Mack Brown would remain winless in the series this decade. The coaching seat keeps getting hotter and hotter.
