Texas Tech defeats Oklahoma State in overtime

LUBBOCK, Texas — As promised, Travis Ford tweaked his offense Saturday, seeking — and getting — more easy shots for his Cowboys.

Some things, however, remain beyond Ford's control.

Like what his guys do with those shots, which at Texas Tech, was misfire often. And like how they continue to foul at an alarming rate.

Those areas, along with Keiton Page's efforts to save the day, provided the snapshot moments Saturday as Tech pushed back Oklahoma State 75-74 in overtime at United Spirit Arena.

Somehow, it was that close, despite the Cowboys missing nearly two-thirds of their 74 shots from the floor and sending the Red Raiders to the foul line with regularity.

“We got 74 shots and could only figure out a way to make 25 of them,” Ford said. “As I keep saying, 39 free throws for them … you're not going to win many games doing that.”

Lately, the Cowboys aren't winning many games, period.

Saturday's loss was their fifth in six games, dropping them to 2-5 in the Big 12 and 14-7 overall, seriously jeopardizing their hopes to become an NCAA Tournament team. The Cowboys fell to 0-4 in conference road games.

Making Saturday's setback more regrettable: OSU owned opportunities to win it.

A sluggish start sent the Cowboys down by nine early, 18-9, before they rallied back to trail 33-32 at the half. Tech rebuilt the lead to nine in the second half, only to see OSU battle back again, even leading 65-64 with 1:12 left in regulation when Marshall Moses scored on a put back.

The Red Raiders surged back ahead, 68-65, when Brad Reese and John Roberson made free throws on consecutive trips. But Reese fouled Page on a 3-point attempt that just missed, sending the Cowboys guard to the line for three free throws with :15.3 showing.
