Texas Tech released a statement Friday morning announcing disciplinary action against senior women's basketball guard Amber Battle.

Battle will be suspended for the entire month of November after she was involved in an incident during a pickup basketball game last Saturday at the Texas Tech Student Recreation Center. In the incident, Red Raiders football player Nigel Bethel II hit her in the face, prompting his dismissal from the football program.

In the statement released by the university, Battle admits to initiating first contact on Bethel, who faces felony charges. The attack was described in a police report as "causing serious bodily injury."

"I take full responsibility for my actions. I want to take this time to apologize to Nigel, the Texas Tech community, my teammates, coaches and fans," Battle said in a statement. "Nothing I can say can truly repair the harm I have already caused. I did not represent the Double T like I am supposed to and I promise to hold myself to a higher standard from here on."
