HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam (AP) — Thailand qualified for the Women's World Cup for the first time, beating Vietnam 2-1 on Wednesday advance along with defending champion Japan, Australia, China and South Korea.

Pikul Khueanpet scored early in the second half and Kanjana Sungngoen made it 2-0 in the 65th minute of the playoff. Tuyet Dong narrowed the margin with goal four minutes from time.

The win gave Thailand fifth place at the Asian Cup and the last of the continent's qualifying spots for the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada.

The top four teams qualified after the group stage. In Thursday's semifinals, defending Asian Cup champion Australia will play South Korea, and reigning World Cup champion Japan will meet China.
