NORMAN — Continuing our look at the top 15 Oklahoma football players in the Bob Stoops era, we remember the 2003 Butkus Award winner and a two-time All-America linebacker.

Notable: A relative unknown out of Fort Gibson High, Lehman was offered a scholarship on the spot by co-defensive coordinator Brent Venables after registering a 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash at OU’s summer camp. … A two-time consensus first-team All-American. … After playing middle linebacker in 2001, Lehman replaced star Rocky Calmus as OU’s weakside backer and flourished. … Lehman was one of three finalists for the 2002 Butkus Award, which went to Maryland’s E.J. Henderson. He won the award a year later. … Lehman now co-hosts an afternoon sports talk show on KREF radio (1400 AM in Norman) with former OU defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek.

When: Oct. 6, 2001
Where: Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas
Lehman’s day: Recorded the game-sealing interception when safety Roy Williams flew into the air, hit Longhorns quarterback Chris Simms and forced an errant throw, which was grabbed by Lehman and returned two yards late in the fourth quarter. … Tallied seven tackles as OU’s starting middle linebacker. … The first of Lehman’s three straight standout Red River performances.

Oklahoma 10, Arkansas 3
When: Jan. 1, 2002
Where: Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas
Lehman’s day: With 1:51 left and OU clinging to a 10-3 lead, Lehman hit Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones and forced a fumble. Rocky Calmus recovered it at the Razorbacks’ 35-yard line to seal the bowl victory. … Recorded six tackles, two for loss and a sack in the Sooners’ dominant defensive performance.

Oklahoma 35, Texas 24
When: Oct. 12, 2002
Where: Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas
Lehman’s day: Once again came up with a key interception of Simms off a deflection. This time, safety Brandon Everage’s hit popped the ball in the air, Lehman picked it off and returned it 20 yards. OU trailed 17-14, but scored the go-ahead touchdown only a few plays after Lehman’s interception. … Recorded seven tackles in helping hold Texas to 209 total yards.
