NORMAN — Continuing our look at the top 15 Oklahoma football players in the Bob Stoops era, we remember a two-time All-America defensive tackle from Oklahoma City’s Southeast High School.

Notable: ranked McCoy as the No. 4 overall prospect in the country out of Southeast High. … Joined fellow class of 2006, state standout Jermaine Gresham (Ardmore) by announcing the Sooners as his college choice on signing day. … Redshirted as a true freshman in 2006. … Between 2007 and 2009, started all 40 of Oklahoma’s games, recording career totals of 83 tackles (33 for loss) and 14.5 sacks. … Was a first-team All-American in 2008 and 2009 as a sophomore and junior. … Skipped his senior season to enter the 2010 NFL Draft, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made him the No. 3 overall pick.

When: Oct. 6, 2007
Where: Cotton Bowl Stadium, Dallas
McCoy’s day: McCoy recorded two tackles and recovered a key fumble in the third quarter. The game entered halftime tied at 14, but the Longhorns marched down the field on the second-half opening drive. Texas running back Jamaal Charles rushed nine yards to the Sooners’ 4, but had the ball knocked loose by linebacker Curtis Lofton. McCoy recovered it, and OU went on to win.

Oklahoma 41, Missouri 31
When: Oct. 13, 2007
Where: Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman
McCoy’s day: Recorded two tackles for loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry in the Sooners’ victory over previously unbeaten Missouri. … Less than two months later, when the teams met again in the Big 12 title game — with Missouri ranked No. 1 and needing a win to secure a spot in the BCS title game — McCoy logged two tackles, assisted on a tackle for loss and recorded two quarterback hurries, and OU won 38-17.

Florida 24, Oklahoma 14
When: Jan. 8, 2009
Where: Dolphin Stadium, Miami Gardens, Fla.
McCoy’s day: It seems strange to include a loss on McCoy’s memorable games list, but his outstanding play in the Sooners’ BCS title game defeat to Florida deserves mention. … McCoy recorded four tackles — one for loss — and intercepted his only career pass in the second quarter. … After Florida and OU exchanged touchdown drives to make the score 7-7, McCoy picked off standout Gators quarterback Tim Tebow and returned it 12 yards to Florida’s 26-yard line. OU threatened to take a lead on the ensuing drive, but running back Chris Brown was stuffed on third-, then fourth-and goal from the 1.
