OU football: The Breakdown

Published: November 22, 2008

Why we love Mike Leach

First, his team left tire tracks on Oklahoma State. Now he’s attempting to derail the national-title hopes of Oklahoma. Still, it’s impossible not to love Texas Tech coach Mike Leach. Let us count the reasons why:

5. His MySpace page: Yes, Leach is on the social networking site. His interests include — and we’re not kidding here — throwing stuff.

4. His pedigree: Leach played rugby, not football, in college. He has a law degree, for goodness sakes. Not the road you’d expect to college football coaching.

3. His quirks: A love of pirates. A stint in Finland. An interest in World War II. Leach seems like a guy you’d want to sit with and have a beer.

2. His offense: Leach doesn’t care what the scoreboard or the conventional wisdom says. His teams are going to throw it and throw it and throw it.

1. His every-man-ness: These days, lots of college football coaches have become robotic and uppity. Leach is refreshingly human.

Across the board, OU has higher rated recruits, but higher rated recruits don't always win the game. I hope that OU's higher rated recruits play to their potential tonight and produce a victory like they should! Boomer Sooner! Go Big Red!

I laugh at your folly. Better players? Maybe in the old days. Take a look at the stats for the starting 22 for both teams. There isn't one position where Leach would trade his starter for OU's.

None. This game isn't going to be as close as most believe. Barry Switzer said it best. "Oklahoma has the better players and they should win". Our kids are fired up and ticked off, and there will be alot of energy in that stadium tonight. Boomer Sooner Baby!!
