After much talk and hopeful public discussion, it’s official: the “Breaking Bad” prequel centered on crooked lawyer Saul Goodman is happening.

AMC and Sony Pictures Television confirmed it today. The spinoff, which will feature the popular supporting character from “Breaking Bad,” will be a one-hour long series prequel tentatively titled “Better Call Saul.” Bob Odenkirk plays Goodman, and the series will focus on how the lawyer builds his shady business before taking on Walter White and Jesse Pinkman as clients.

“Breaking Bad” concludes its much-acclaimed five-season run on Sept. 29. No date is set yet for “Better Call Saul,” but for “Breaking Bad” fans, it’s hope for the future, found in the past.
