Why he’ll win
No player was more valuable to his team. McCoy is the Longhorns’ leader in every way. He had a team-high 576 yards rushing in addition to 3,445 yards passing and 32 touchdown passes. Those stats alone are worthy of Heisman consideration, but some voters might add a sympathy vote because of Texas’ BCS woes.

Why he won’t win
He’s not Sam Bradford or Tim Tebow. McCoy might just lose out in the quarterback shuffle, especially when the other two played on the regular season’s final weekend while McCoy sat home. He also had a less-than-stellar first half at Texas Tech, with six Texas possessions yielding only five first downs and two field goals. While McCoy nearly rallied the Longhorns to victory, they might have won had he produced a better first half.

What they’re saying about McCoy
"Why McCoy? I think he did more with less. I think 77 percent completion percentage. I’ve seen QBs unable to complete 77 percent in a 7-on-7 drill.”

Lenn Robbins, New York Post

"Played at an amazingly high level all year and did so elevating an offense that didn’t have a very good tailback, any tight end or an offensive line loaded with all-conference talent.”

Bruce Feldman, ESPN.com

"McCoy was to Texas this year what Tebow was to Florida in 2007.”

— Michael DiRocco, Florida Times-Union

"While throwing for 32 touchdowns and seven interceptions, McCoy led the Longhorns in rushing.
