Verizon recently released a commercial exposing the unintentional and even well-meaning ways parents prevent their daughters from engaging in science, technology, engineering and math.
Deseret Digital Media NewsOK publishes content from Deseret Digital Media, which has a network of websites that includes KSL.com, DeseretNews.com and FamilyShare.com.
The video features the phases parents are inclined to say when young girls participate in activities that defy stereotypes and how that impacts them in later years.
The commercial, titled "Inspire Her Mind," was produced in conjunction with Makers, "a dynamic digital platform showcasing thousands of compelling stories — both known and unknown — from trailblazing women of today and tomorrow," according to makers.com.
This video is one of several making the rounds on social media and sparking conversations about female stereotypes. A June 18 Pantene commercial asked, "Why are women always apologizing?" and June 26 Always ad examined the insulting connotation of the phrase "like a girl."
