— The deaths of a man and a boy from gunfire early Monday were Lawton's first homicides of 2014, police reported.

About 2:05 a.m., police found Uwe Rushing, 49, and Stefan Rushing, 13, dead from gunshot wounds in a house in the 1100 block of Columbia.

Police Capt. Craig Akard said an 18-year-old man in the house was not shot. The victims were watching television when they were shot, police said.

The man told police two black males entered the house through the back door and shot the victims. The man was able to get a shotgun and shoot at the gunmen, Akard said. The gunmen left in an unknown direction. The gunmen were wearing dark sweaters and masks, the man told police.

Inmate is third death

Later Monday morning, an inmate died, giving Lawton its third homicide of the year.

Police were called about 8 a.m. Monday to Lawton Correctional Facility, which is run by the GEO Group.

The assaulted inmate, Christopher Glass, 33, was taken to Southwestern Medical Center, Akard said.

Glass was found about 7:20 a.m. on the floor of his cell. He was taken to the prison infirmary and then taken to the hospital. Glass was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. at the hospital, Akard said.

Police did not release information on cause of death or who they believe killed Glass.
