More than 26,000 people are expected to lace up skates and hit the ice at the Downtown in December ice rink.

"Everybody had a lot of fun. It’s a good time,” said Stacy Bezaire, who brought her family to the rink after looking for something to do over the holiday weekend.

The rink is on the Civic Center lawn at 201 N Walker Ave. and is open through Jan. 4. Admission is $8 with skate rental, $5 for those who supply their own skates. Skate sessions are for two hours when the rink is busy.

"Unless we’re really, really crowded, you can skate as long as you want to,” said Gary Gosnell, a worker at the rink.

The rink is open from noon to 10 p.m. most days, and closes at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

There will be live ice sculpting starting at 6 p.m. on Dec. 4, 11, 18 and New Year’s Day.

The Oklahoma City Blazers will hold a live practice on the rink Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. The Rockettes will be on hand at 7 p.m. Dec. 10.

The rink is in its seventh season and is sponsored by Devon Energy.
