OU opens its football season Saturday against Chattanooga, a school with one of the worst nicknames in collegiate sports: Mocs. Chattanooga was known as the Moccasins until 1996, when the official name was shortened to the Mocs, which has no discernible meaning. But don't think every unusual Division I-AA nickname is a bummer. The 10 best:

Chris: I think it's actually Football Championship Subdivision. No matter--to me (as to Berry, apparently), it's still Division 1-AA.

South Dakota - Coyotes

Iona - Gaels

Marist - Red Foxes

Furman - Paladins

Wofford - Terriers

Yeah, those nick names put fear into your opponents! Fear of peeing in their pants laughing...

No love for the Fightin' Blue Hens of Delaware? No justice! The Lumberjacks of N. Arizona? (Shared with Stephen F. Autin, lead by He Who Shall Not Be Named.) And the best of all: From the Southland Conference comes the Prebyterian College Blue Hose. That's not a typo. Blue Hose.

Louisiana-Lafayette isn't I-AA or actually, Tramel is not up with the times. It's now called Football Championship Series, not I-AA.
