This year marks Oklahoma's 30th 3-0 start since joining the Big 6 Conference in 1928. In the previous 29 such seasons, OU's combined winning percentage is 86.4 (292-46-3). The Sooners went to a bowl game in 24 of those seasons and won at least 10 games in 21 of them. Here are the five worst finishes for the Sooners after starting 3-0:

5. 9-3, 1991 and '93: Gary Gibbs was run out of town with a 65.2 winning percentage partly because he had fallen behind Nebraska and Colorado in the Big 8 power struggle. He was 0-4 against them in these two years — his best as the OU coach.
4. 8-3, 1990: Gibbs' second team peaked at 5-0 before consecutive losses to Texas, Iowa State at home and at Colorado.
3. 6-4, 1966: Jim McKenzie's only season as head coach wasn't great, as he lost four of his last six games. But he still brought in Chuck Fairbanks and Barry Switzer.
2. 7-5, 1999: At the time, Bob Stoops' first campaign seemed like a pretty good year. He's fallen short of 11 wins only once since.
1. 5-5-1, 1995: As if Sooner fans needed another reason to try to forget the Howard Schnellenberger year.
