Oklahoma and Oklahoma State each secured wins on Saturday that kept them in the race for the Big 12 title. Each did it with some of the best offensive performances of the season by each team.
Trey Millard the latest injury blow for OU
Oklahoma fullback Trey Millard suffered a season-ending injury on Saturday in the Sooners’ 38-30 win over Texas Tech. Fans voiced their concern and appreciation for Millard on our stories.
Todd Black: I know that you have to play front line players on special teams. However, when you look at OU’s roster; I think playing Millard on special teams would be about like playing Adrian Peterson on kick coverage. Millard is OU’s BEST player…period. I know he is GREAT on special teams, but you just don’t play your best player there. All that being said; Jason White blew out his knee twice, in non-contact situations, so stuff like that can happen anywhere?
Tony Patton: Injuries have been mounting this season to some of the Sooners better players, but dang it! OUs BEST player, BEST leader, BEST NFL prospect, and BEST versatile offensive player. So sorry Trey.
Howard Beale: This is just heartbreaking. I know all teams suffer injuries, but I honestly don’t know of any other program the last five years or so that seems to have suffered, year in and year out, the injuries that OU has. It’s unbelievable, really.
OSU gets Desmond Roland rolling
The spark that the Cowboys’ offense needed came in the form of Desmond Roland, who had a career-best 219 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the 58-27 win over Iowa State. The Cowboys faithful who commented on Berry Tramel’s OSU report card seemed to think Roland should have been used earlier in the season, and that OSU’s offensive excellence on Saturday was more Roland and less offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
George F Miller Jr.: why did it take this long in the season for roland to start….He clearly was the better back. I question the coaches on that.
Chase Adkison: Yurcich gets a C at best and that’s only because Roland made it look good. Maybe because it’s his first year but Yurcich takes the rhythm of of this offense.
Cody Westerlund of the Ames Tribune said Roland’s wild day further magnified Iowa State’s problems stopping the run. Westerlund specifically called it a “systemic internal issue” for the Cyclones.
Roland and OU’s Jalen Saunders each received Big 12 helmet stickers from ESPN.com’s Max Olsen.
Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal said missed chances came back to haunt Texas Tech against OU.
