The Oklahoman staff picks the top games of Week 6

by Scott Wright Published: October 11, 2013

Thanks to Carl Albert putting away McGuinness, Trent stayed perfect on his locks of the week, and held onto a one-game advantage for the top spot overall. But there’s some more variety in the picks this week, so look for some shuffling in the standings.

It’s a split decision on the week’s biggest game, Class 5A No. 2 at No. 1 Carl Albert, 2-1 favoring CA. Here’s how The Oklahoman high school sports staff views this week’s top 10 games:

Scott
Carl Albert 35, Guthrie 34
Jenks 42, Broken Arrow 28
Millwood 42, OCS 35
Clinton 28, Anadarko 22
Lawton 28, Southmoore 24
Fort Gibson 28, Poteau 27
Wetumka 66, Dewar 50
Shattuck 54, Balko 50
Douglass 28, Glenpool 21
Seminole 49, Bethany 28

Lock of the Week: Millwood over OCS. There’s a little bit of a revenge factor, and there’s even more of a speed factor. Millwood just has too many athletes on the field who can make plays. Cameron Batson has shown himself as a star, no matter what position he plays, and just when you think you’ve got him stopped, he’ll give it Janari Glover for a big play, or hit one of his talented receivers.

Carl Albert 24, Guthrie 21
Jenks 35, Broken Arrow 28
Millwood 38, OCS 28
Anadarko 21, Clinton 20
Lawton 24, Southmoore 23
Fort Gibson 31, Poteau 30
Wetumka 48, Dewar 40
Shattuck 56, Balko 54
Douglass 27, Glenpool 24
Seminole 38, Bethany 31

Lock of the Week: Anadarko over Clinton. Anadarko may be thin up front, but its skill players are playing extremely well to make up for that. Also, Clinton star running back Marquiz Simpkins is not completely healthy, raising questions about the offensive output.

Trent
Guthrie 35, Carl Albert 34
Jenks 24, Broken Arrow 20
Millwood 28, Oklahoma Christian 24
Anadarko 21, Clinton 20
Lawton 35, Southmoore 27
Poteau 42, Fort Gibson 38
Wetumka 51, Dewar 40
Shattuck 47, Balko 41
Douglass 24, Glenpool 21
Seminole 35, Bethany 21

Lock of the Week: Jenks over Broken Arrow. The Tigers certainly have the talent to hang around in this one, but Jenks is riding a 17-game win streak and hasn’t lost at home since 2006. Don’t expect those streaks to end Friday night.

Standings
Trent
Last week: 7-3, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 36-14, Lock: 5-0

Scott
Last week: 7-3, Lock: 0-1
Overall: 35-15, Lock: 4-1

Jacob
Last week: 6-4, Lock: 1-0
Overall: 32-18, Lock: 4-1
