Of the 128 entries in the High Plains Division, the package won first in the Big Market Daily category for Feature/Human Interest. It is now a "know it” online feature on NewsOK.com.

The High Plains division comprises Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Hawaii. The contest was for small, medium and large market newspapers and television stations. The awards were presented during a recent ceremony in Dallas.

Three Oklahoma journalists also were honored in separate categories. In Small Market Daily, James Coburn of the Edmond Sun and Sommer Woodward of The Pryor Daily Times received awards, and Maggie Carlo of KOCO-TV was honored in Big Market Television.
