Del City began the season ranked No. 11 in The Oklahoman’s preseason poll. And despite a pair of losses to ranked 6A teams, the Eagles have slowly climbed up the poll. Friday’s 20-point win over then-No. 3 Lawton MacArthur boosted Del City to the third spot in this week’s poll.

McAlester held onto the fourth spot, setting up a big matchup with visiting Shawnee this Friday.

And Deer Creek dropped to No. 6, but that was merely a product of Del City’s jump, not punishment for Deer Creek’s loss to No. 1 Carl Albert.

The bottom four spots held steady. Carl Albert and No. 10 McGuinness will meet this week in a rematch of last year’s Class 5A semifinal.

Here’s the latest version of The Oklahoman’s Class 5A rankings:

Rank, Team, Record (Prev.)
1. Carl Albert, 3-1 (1)
2. Guthrie, 4-0 (2)
3. Del City, 2-2 (6)
4. McAlester, 3-1 (4)
5. Lawton MacArthur, 2-2 (3)
6. Deer Creek, 2-2 (5)
7. Shawnee, 3-1 (7)
8. Tulsa Kelley, 3-1 (8)
9. Claremore, 3-1 (9)
10. McGuinness, 2-2 (10)
Dropped out: None
