The Oklahoman's Class A rankings: Ringling holds steady despite loss

Class A’s top-ranked team was in the best Week 1 matchup, ranking-wise, and though Ringling was defeated by Class 2A No. 2 Davis, it still wasn’t enough to justify dropping the Blue Devils out of the top spot in the new Class A top 10.

Okeene made a big jump with its victory over Cashion, which was ranked two spots higher thank the Whippets in the preseason poll.

Wynnewood and Texhoma were also among top 10 teams to suffer defeats, but none so drastic as to warrant moving them out of the top 10. But there are some good teams on the edge, looking for a chance to pounce on a spot in the rankings — Crescent, Velma-Alma, Talihina and Morrison among them. So the coming weeks will be interesting in the Class A rankings.

Here’s The Oklahoman’s updated top 10 for Class A:

Rank, Team, Record (Prev.)
1. Ringling, 0-1 (1)
2. Thomas, 1-0 (3)
3. Wynnewood, 0-1 (2)
4. Kiefer, 1-0 (5)
5. Hollis, 1-0 (6)
6. Okeene, 1-0 (9)
7. Wayne, 1-0 (8)
8. Texhoma, 0-1 (4)
9. Cashion, 0-1 (7)
10. Fairview, 1-0 (10)
