Each week, college football insider George Schroeder ranks the nation’s 25 best teams.
1. Ohio State (3-0): Nation’s best 1-2 punch is Troy Smith to Ted Ginn Jr.
2. Auburn (3-0): With help from officials, Tigers’ defense holds off LSU. 3. USC (2-0): Trojans had little trouble with Nebraska. 4. Florida (3-0): Spurrier’s gone, but Florida’s still making Fulmer into a punch line. 5. Michigan (3-0): Wolverines dominated Irish in South Bend. 6. West Virginia (3-0): Steve Slaton is faaaaaaast and gooooood. 7. Texas (2-1): Bounced back with big win over Rice. 8. Georgia (3-0): Bulldogs’ defense appears dominant. 9. LSU (2-1): JaMarcus Russell is not the answer at quarterback. 10. Louisville (3-0): Big win over Miami, but lost QB Brohm. 11. Oregon (3-0): Ducks shouldn’t be penalized for officials’ mistakes. 12. Oklahoma (2-1): Sooners shouldn’t be penalized for officials’ mistakes, either. 13. Virginia Tech (3-0): Hokies’ next test isn’t until Oct. 12 at B.C. 14. Notre Dame (2-1): Ouch! Whipped at home by Michigan. 15. TCU (3-0): Fourth straight win over a Big 12 opponent.
