I wrote a story for today’s paper about Newcastle football, and the documentary that was made about them last season while they were being studied and taught about head injuries and prevention. You can read that story here. Contrary to my original report, the documentary will air at 10 p.m. Wednesday night on OETA. My apologies for the mistake, but hopefully football players and their parents are able to watch it.

It was a fascinating process to learn about, hearing the players talk about what they went through, what they learned and how it has helped them better understand concussions and how to avoid them.

Football isn’t going away. And injuries happen. A lot of the fear of head injuries comes from a lack of understanding, and things like this documentary will help to ease that fear, when people see that you can have at least some control over your ability to avoid concussions.
