From 2004-05 through last season, 65.1 percent of the teams that finished .500 or better during the NBA preseason advanced to the playoffs, while 37.5 percent did not, according to NBA.com.
Of the 20 teams that reached the Conference Finals the last five seasons, 16 had a .500 record or better during the preseason.
