A burglar locked a mother and her four children in a closet while stealing more than $3,600 in cash and valuables from their home, Oklahoma City police reported Friday.
The woman arrived home from picking up her children at school Wednesday to find someone coming out the back door with items wrapped in a sheet.
The mother spoke very little English, so her son told police what happened.
The family arrived home at 1616 W Park Place and saw a black man about 25 to 30 years old walk out of the house. He dropped the objects he was holding, ran through the yard and scaled the fence.
The mother took her children inside the house, where they saw a second man coming down the attic stairs carrying cash that had been hidden in the attic, according to the report.
The second man — described as a black, about 35 years old, wearing a black shirt, pants and gloves — kicked the woman in the hip while she was holding her baby and then forced everyone into a bedroom closet, police reported.
The thief propped a wooden chair against the door to prevent the family from opening it and told them not to call police. He said he would be coming back.
The family waited in the closet about two and half hours before they escaped. The son called his father, who told him to call 911, according to the report.
