Thief steals from Moore store toys meant for terminally ill children
Moore church group asks community for donations to replace toys intended for annual A Classic Christmas in August event.
MOORE — A local church group is asking for donations to help replace toys that were stolen before they could be distributed to terminally ill children.
The toys were to be given to the children during an event sponsored by the Classic Life Group at First Baptist Church of Moore.
A woman claiming to be a member of the group picked up the toys Saturday from Maurices in Moore, said Betty Leighty a member of the Classic Life Group.
The store has conducted toy drives for the annual event for three years, Leighty said.
Despite the theft, bells will ring, carolers will sing and a snowman will dance at the third annual A Classic Christmas in August event, scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the church, 301 NE 27.
Because the Classics — as members of the senior group call themselves — are small in number, they aren't able to replace stolen toys, Leighty said. They are asking the community to help them collect toys in time for the celebration.
