Wrecks on state roads killed three people today and Tuesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Rayfield F. Smiley, 93, Oklahoma City

Smiley died early today at the scene of a crash on Interstate 40 in Clinton in Custer County, troopers said.

His car was stopped in the outside eastbound lane of the interstate about 12:35 a.m. when a tractor-trailer rig slammed into it, the patrol reported. The rig's driver was not hurt.

Smiley was not wearing a seat belt, but the rig's driver was, troopers said.

Orlen Leach, 73, Chelsea

Leach died this morning of a possible medical issue after a crash southeast of Bushyhead in Rogers County, the patrol reported.

He was driving a pickup west on a county road when he suffered the apparent medical issue, troopers said. The pickup veered off the road and hit a tree.

Leach died at a Claremore hospital, the patrol reported. He was wearing a seat belt.

Donald Jay Young, 64, Eucha

Young died Tuesday after a crash west of Jay in Delaware County, troopers said.

He was driving a van on State Highway 20 about 2 p.m. when an oncoming pickup veered off the road, came back onto the highway and drifted left of center, the patrol reported. The vehicles collided head-on.

Young died at a Grove hospital, troopers said. The pickup driver, Stewart Gregory Whisman, 42, of Salina, was flown to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.

The men were not wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
