Three people died Sunday after a crash on an icy bridge over the Red River in Bryan County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported

About 6:50 p.m., Juan Garcia, 40, of Miami, OK, was driving a sport utility vehicle south on U.S. 69 on the bridge into Texas. The SUV slid on the icy road and hit the bridge railings. The vehicle then was struck by two southbound tractor-trailers, troopers said.

Garcia and two of his eight passengers — Anita Lucio Mayorga, 70, and a juvenile whose name and age were not released — died at the scene. The other passengers, two women and five juveniles, were taken to a hospital in Texas for treatment, troopers said.

The two truck drivers were not injured.

Troopers said the two truckers and one juvenile in the SUV were using a seat belt, but they did not know whether the other people were.
