What's the toughest district in the new alignment?
Carl Albert and Guthrie been two of 5A's strongest teams for years and have been paired up for awhile.
Deer Creek remains grouped with the two powers in District 5A-2, and the Antlers figure to have an even better offense with QB Joel Blumenthal and WR Jared Rayburn building on another year of experience.
How will Del City fare in 5A?
Better. Last season was going to be rough regardless as the Eagles lost a ton of seniors from the 2010 team.
Del City coach Nick Warehime wasn't sure how his young players would handle taking their lumps in their final year of 6A, but he was impressed with the work they put in.
That work should pay off this year. With Lawton MacArthur, Duncan and Ardmore in the district, it won't be easy, but a playoff berth and possibly more is certainly realistic for the Eagles.
How much will Guthrie be affected by not having coach Rafe Watkins on the sidelines early on?
Not much. Watkins will serve the last four games of an eight-game suspension to start the season after the Bluejays made their run to the 2011 state title with Watkins in the stands.
Watkins is able to coach the team during the week, and Kelly Beeby did a good job of leading the assistants during that playoff run and will do the same this year.
Guthrie's schedule also works in its favor, with the Bluejays' toughest games coming near the end.
Watkins, whose suspension stems from a player eligibility issue, returns for the Western Heights game a week before the annual showdown with Carl Albert.
