Plenty of questions today on the OU chat with Ryan Aber. From Joe Mixon to the Sooners’ defense to recruiting, engagement was great for one of the first chats of football season. Here were some of the highlights:
Comment From Paula
Seems to me like the FINE writers at NEWSOK have already CONVICTED Mr. Mixon. How about we let the legal process play out before we starting throwing stones????
I’d be interested to hear why you felt this way. We’ve reported what is going on, talked to people on both sides of this thing and never said this was anything more than allegations at this point.
Comment From Carter
I say suspend him for this season, redshirt him and get him into some counseling or something. If we’re gonna give Mizzou castaways a second chance, why not give our own guys a second chance?
It depends on the severity of the charge, if there are any, the video if it’s made public, etc. There’s a chance this is something he couldn’t recover from in Norman. There’s also a chance that he takes the year as a redshirt, gets things together, and things are fine. Bob Stoops has a history of not reflexively dismissing players but also not letting them run amok. If he did do something that involved battery on a woman, though, it would be hard to keep him around with the Frank Shannon and DGB stuff still going on. It’s perception as much as anything.
Comment From Eric
When do you think we will find out about Frank Shannon and if is going play this year or still be on the team?
It’s a pretty secretive process at this point but I would be surprised if there wasn’t a decision before the opener at least. As for whether Shannon is on the team or not, I’m not going to speculate on that at this point. From a purely football standpoint, it would be a big loss for OU. Obviously, this situation is MUCH deeper than just football though.
ELIGIBILITY FOR MAYFIELD AND GREEN-BECKHAM
Comment From Mike
what is the update on who is leading in the backup QB position?
Comment From SJ
I have heard that Stoops things DGB and Mayfield have a good shot of being eligble. What is your opinion, and have you heard anything new?
We’ll throw these two together. If Baker Mayfield is ruled eligible this season, he’s a pretty clear-cut No. 2 guy. Barring that, it’s up in the air between Cody Thomas and Justice Hansen. That will go down to the wire.
As for what I’ve heard on both, strangely it seems like the confidence is greater on DGB vs. Mayfield because of Missouri being on board with DGB’s appeal. But wouldn’t be surprised by any combination of outcomes.
