Three Sooners named to 2013 USA Softball Women’s National Team

USA Softball and the Amateur Softball Association announced the 2013 USA Softball Women’s National team roster Friday. Three Sooners made the list.

Keilani Ricketts, Lauren Chamberlain and Destinee Martinez will play for Team USA.

The Sooners were selected after a three-day camp at ASA Hall of Fame complex in Oklahoma City to a 18-player roster. Team USA Will compete in three separate events in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Team USA will compete in its first competition on July 11-14 during the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, tnhem move on to the Canadian Open Fast Pitch from July 16- 22 in Surrey, B.C., Canada. The final competition is on August 5-18 at the International Softball Federation Women’s World Championship/Pan American Games qualifier in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

This is Ricketts third summer with the National Team. She helped Team USA to the 2012 World Cup of Softball. They also won silver at the 2012 ISF XIII Women’s World Fastpitch Championship and Canadian Open International Championship.

Chamberlain and Martinez made the National Team roster for the first time. They were teammates, though, on the 2010-20122 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, where they won gold at the III Pan American Championship.

“Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./Head Coach at USF) will lead the National Team and will be assisted by four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Laura Berg (Corvalis, Ore./head coach Oregon State) as well as Suzy Brazney (Huntington Beach, Calif./head coach Golden West College), Howard Dobson (Orange, Texas/assistant coach at LSU), Karen Weekly (Edmonds, Wash./co-head coach at Univ. of Tennessee) and Mike White (Eugene, Ore/ head coach Univ. of Oregon) throughout the summer events.”
