MIAMI, Fla. — Daniel Quintanilla is the romantic type. He proposed to his fiancee, Kassandra Gordon, last season at a Thunder game in Oklahoma City.
“I love sports and the Thunder, so he couldn't have done it a better day,” said Gordon, who could recall the opponent but not the date. “The only think I remember is they were playing the Suns, somewhere in December, and they lost.”
And that “memorable” date, Dec. 17, 2011, still ranks first on the couple's best dates, but Game 4 of the NBA Finals was a close second, and that was before tipoff. Quintanilla and Gordon made the six-hour drive to Miami from outside Macon, Ga., where they're going to college, and were sitting in the lower bowl of American Airlines Arena next to Gordon's parents, Moore native Dace Gordon and his wife, Christina.
Kassandra's parents are in the National Guard and stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. Kassandra, an aspiring singer/songwriter, says she performed the national anthem at a National Guard convention. And if the Thunder is interested in adding to her sporting thrills, Kassandra said she's available to sing before a Thunder game, say Game 6? “I'm used to singing the anthem to a lot of military, so I sing it traditional, just the way they like it.”
