SIGHTS AND SOUNDS FROM GAME 1
The Peake was lively as ever for Game 1 vs. the Lakers. Hey, the Thunder players and coaches weren't the only ones who had a long layoff. The fans did, too, and they were ready and raring to go.
SEEN AND HEARD
*Yes, the boos rained down on Ron Artest — otherwise known as Metta World Peace — when he was introduced. They were loud, but they weren't sustained. Seemed about as well-restrained as you might expect after what he did to James Harden.
*Way louder than the boos for Artest were the cheers for Harden. When Harden received the Sixth Man of the Year before the game, the cheers were deafening. Ditto for when Harden checked into the game for the first time.
*Sign makers were out in full force to, ahem, welcome Artest. A sampling:
Metta World Piece of LA Trash
MWP: Tonya Harding of the NBA
End World Peace
*Spotted in the crowd at The Peake: Former Thunder player Desmond Mason and NBA super fan James Goldstein.
*TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager was sadly understated in his apparel. Houndstooth jacket. Striped shirt. Gold tie. What, no pink? No teal? No polka dots?
*Gotta give it up to Rumble. Dude hit a behind-the-back half-court shot before the fourth quarter.
*The crowd outside The Peake watching the game on the big screen just keeps growing. People packed Reno Avenue and stretched over half a block. It looked like at least 5,000 fans but sure could've been more.
TWEET IT UP
What the Twittersphere had to say during Game 1:
@RickieFowlerPGA: Let's go @okcthunder!! #ThunderUp
@DickieV: My buddies say Thunder in 6. They love @KDTrey5 & so do I — KD is special but playoff exp. + Kobe tells me Lakers in 7!
@RealSkipBayless: I like the Lakers, w/ G7 momentum, to steal G1 from rusty Thunder as Artest feeds off boos. But I like young Thunder to wear down LA in 6.
Highlights from the live game chat at NewsOK.com:
8:34 p.m.: Soonerule: Sounds rowdy at The Peake.
8:43 p.m.: BB in San Diego: In NY or Philly, stuff would have been flying out of the stands at Ron.
8:43 p.m.: Earl, NYC: Or in Detroit.
9:07 p.m.: Jerry: There's no way Blake can guard Harden!
9:07 p.m.: MartzMimic: The Bearddozer?
9:08 p.m.: ThunderSonics: If you lay off, he shoots the three. If you guard him tight, he drives by you. Best offensive skill set to have.
10:07 p.m.: Earl, NYC: Rust? What rust? Great start to the third.
10:41 p.m.: Timmy: Can we carry a few points over to Game 2?
We want to know how you're celebrating while traveling the playoff road with the Thunder. Did you grow a beard like Harden? Did you paint your house blue?
