Tulsa has been a kind place to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It’s shown in the support. Bill Halstien of the Tulsa World wrote an interesting piece about the relationship the Thunder and Tulsa share, particularly when it comes to breaking records. Of the top six largest crowds in BOK Center history, five are music acts.

No. 1? The Thunder’s 2012 preseason game against the Phoenix Suns. Yes, the Thunder even drew more fans than Elton John and Billy Joel. Halstien also shows a steady increase in the Thunder’s preseason attendance at the BOK Center from 2008 to a spike in 2012. Our Darnell Mayberry connected the dots with the Thunder and Tulsa here.

“It’s always been great. Every game we’ve had there it’s been a great atmosphere,” said Thunder coach Scott Brooks. “It’s great for us and great for the fans. It’s an opportunity for us to continue to show the state our team. We have an amazing following of Thunder fans throughout the state and we take pride in it.”

The Thunder haven’t lost this preseason, but guess who else is unbeaten? At 4-0, Times-Picayune writer Jimmy Smith says the young Pelicans haven’t faced any adversity yet. The Thunder will be The Pelicans’ first test.

Speaking of tests, Pelicans forward Al-Faroqu Aminu drew the short straw and will have to try to guard Kevin Durant tonight. Durant has been outstanding in preseason and Aminu said the Pelicans have to rise to the challenge.
