Darnell Mayberry 11:02 a.m. Greetings, ladies and gents.
Josh of Ish 11:02 a.m. Great podcast, btw, but I am curious if you think CJ Miles can be a reliable every game starter, or are you looking for a placeholder until Lamb is ready?
Darnell Mayberry 11:04 a.m. Thanks. I think he's reliable. With Jackson and Lamb coming off the bench, you don't need a guy playing 35 minutes a night in that spot. As a matter of fact, you can't have a guy like that. So for that reason, I think Miles is a great fit because he could play 25 to 30 depending on the night and the rest of the minutes could go to Jackson and Lamb.
Billy in 4C 11:04 a.m. I listened to the thunder buddies podcast yesterday and it really got me thinking. I agree that the thunder could trade up, Presti has shown he loves doing that, but I don't see anyone in the 12-15 range that is worth picking compared to our 21 and 29 spot. I also do agree that we will not end up with both these picks considering our needs and existent youth. I think we probably trade one of these picks (& maybe Pleiss)to pick up a possible starter (I like shumpert over miles), then maybe use the draft pick to get Shabazz or Robinson III. Given the scenerio, which players do you think Presti goes for? Shumpert or Miles (or others)? Shabazz or Robinson (Hood, Early, Warren, etc.)?
Darnell Mayberry 11:08 a.m. So would you also agree that Presti and his staff know a whole helluva lot more than we do about what exactly is there at 12? I cited the Steven Adams example from last year. Few among us were familiar with him. But the Thunder nabbed him at 12 and made out like bandits. I think that exact scenario could happen again this year. Just because we're not in love with someone there or aren't intimately familiar with them doesn't mean Presti and his people aren't...I think Presti would go for Miles over Shumpert. He can be had for less. He's a better shooter. Presti went after him before. And, if I'm not mistaken, assistant GM Troy Weaver had Miles in Utah, so there's a relationship there. It just makes a lot of sense.
Josh of Ish 11:08 a.m. Assuming Presti isn't going to make a deal for Afflalo(huge mistake to me), what combination of moves would put the Thunder in the best position going into next season?
Darnell Mayberry 11:09 a.m. How is it a mistake? Presti would likely have to send the farm to get him. Afflalo isn't worth mortgaging this team's future.
Josh of Ish 11:09 a.m. Besides Mike Miller, what shooter do see as available that would be a good option for the Thunder off the bench? Personally I like Lamb, but I'm not sure Brooks does.
Darnell Mayberry 11:10 a.m. Anthony Morrow is a guy I've mentioned a ton. But C.J. Miles is better and could probably start.
Josh of Ish 11:10 a.m. Are you heartsick that our latest reported draft and stash(promise) pulled out of the draft? What's a Presti to do?
Darnell Mayberry 11:10 a.m. Heartsick? Hardly. I didn't even know the guy. But on video, he did remind me of a young AK47.
Shawn 11:10 a.m. You and Jim Traber were kind of going at it on Twitter the other day. What's going on?
Darnell Mayberry 11:11 a.m. He was coming after us and being inaccurate while doing so. I stood up for our work. Nothing more, nothing less.
Josh of Ish 11:11 a.m. World Cup? You in or out?
Darnell Mayberry 11:12 a.m. Out. Definitely. But I will say that watching Neymar's footwork is like watching an artist create a masterpiece. Young fella is amazing.
Josh of Ish 11:13 a.m. From the podcast you reiterated the Cantor idea. What do you think that would cost, and is there anyway they would include Alec Burks?
Darnell Mayberry 11:15 a.m. Kanter would probably cost a ton, certainly more than the Thunder likely would be willing to part with. So I don't really think it's feasible. But you never know. The Jazz having the fifth pick in this year's draft and a shot at a possible upgrade with Vonleh is the wild card, however. But I definitely don't think you could get Kanter and Burks.
Guest 11:15 a.m. Can the Thunder pair a player's salary with the trade exception to trade for Afflalo or is that not allowed?
Darnell Mayberry 11:15 a.m. Technically not allowed.
Thunderup 11:15 a.m. What will be the Thunder starting line in the first game of the regular season(with trades you presume could happen in mind).
Darnell Mayberry 11:16 a.m. Westbrook, Miles, Durant, Ibaka, Perkins.
Josh of Ish 11:16 a.m. Durant can and will get better, but wouldn't it be good management from Brooks to think more like Pop during that regular season? I mean, don't let Durant play more than everyone else in the league and trust your players to play. He talks about believing in all his guys all the time, but when push comes to shove, some guys are simply selling snow cones instead of playing minutes.
