Thunder draftee Mitch McGary's suspension by NCAA was too drastic says Tom Izzo

Recent Thunder draftee Mitch McGary left Michigan for the NBA while facing a one-year suspension for a failed drug test.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo recently told Associated Press sports editors that "he wasn't crazy about that rule." Had McGary failed a Michigan-administered drug test instead of the NCAA's, he would have only been suspended three games.

Had he failed a drug test at another school, the punishment could have been different. Izzo thinks the punishments should be the same across the board.

“I think there are policies in place that should be governed for everybody,” Izzo said. “You can’t go to one school and get three chances and one school and get one. I think that’s hard too, it becomes a recruiting advantage.”
