Thunder fails to play catch-up

That figure is even worse in the first quarter (36.4 percent).

"Besides the way we start games sometimes, the energy to get back into games, I like that,” said veteran forward Joe Smith. "But we have to do it from start to finish. We can’t wait until we get down 15 to 20 points. We have to stick with it and get the necessary stops and put the ball in the hole early on.”

The Thunder is riding a five-game losing streak heading into an East Coast swing to New York (tonight) and Philadelphia (Saturday). Despite a 1-7 start, Smith is confident a young team will gel and win its share of games.

"Things are going to change,” Smith said. "The effort for the most part is there. We lost a couple of games to Atlanta and Indiana we felt we should have won. (Orlando) was kind of a setback. But our effort is there for the most part every night. If we continue to do that, and believe in each other, we’ll be fine.”
